How to Smoke a Cigar
It may seem just as simple as lighting a cigarette, but the best way how to smoke a cigar can be a bit more difficult than just casually lighting it with any old flame lying around. Assuming you’ve looked around and found a good product that you’ll enjoy, the next step is deciding how best to do it. This includes all small manners of things, not the least of which is cutting, lighting, and inhaling.
Even before you begin the actual smoking process, take some time to be sure you have enough space to smoke your chosen product. To begin with, find a good space away from people that may not appreciate your particular tobacco choice. Many buildings and nearby homes may tolerate cigarette smoke, but the extended life and potency of these products may cause problems. Next, make sure you have enough time. Different sizes and rolling styles smoke differently, so it’s important to consider how much time you’ll be spending. It’s best to leave a smoke for the end of the day rather than trying to force one out before dinner or other event.
Once you have a good setting, you’ll need to cut your product. These tobacco products are rolled in such a way that they are sealed off at the end. This may be a slight inconvenience, but it keeps moisture inside and allows you to adjust how much smoke you inhale and at what rate. There are many different choices for how to make the cut. While in movies, people tend to bite off the end, this is an extremely poor choice. Instead, use a cutter. The most common in a small device that looks sort of like a guillotine. You stick the end of the product in this device and then pinch down, cutting off it’s end at the point you choose. Another style, is a small circular blade that is inserted into the end and cuts a small perfect hole to inhale through.
Next is the light process. There is a large debate between gas lighters and matches, each criticized for adding an unnecessarily harsh taste to your smoke. For matches, it’s the ignition chemicals. To avoid this, let the match burn for a few seconds so the wood is burning (only use wood matches) and the chemicals have faded. For lighters, use a powerful flame that doesn’t leave excess gas floating in the air.
Finally, as you smoke, slowly turn the product as you go. This prevents it from burning unevenly. It’s a small detail, but can make a huge difference. Also, don’t inhale to fast or often. This can make you sick feelings as well as cause the tobacco to get too hot and ignite.
